More than 400 bodyboarders head to Brazil for the 2009 IBA World Tour

IBA World Tour 

For the first time in history Brazil will receive two world tour events sequentially.
The Katherine Melo will open the Brazilian leg in April 21st and then the Bahia Bodyboarding Show will take the world best competitors to the north of Brazil.

Both events will distribute a total of $75.000 dollars and 4500 IBA points. IBA Brazil expects more than 400 competitors on both events.

The Katherine Melo 2009 is going for its second year and the event will count for the woman’s as a Grand Slam event, distributing 1500 points. The men will have $25.000 dollars and 1050 IBA points, the highest non Grand Slam event on the tour so far. The event will take place in the estaleirinho beach, in Balneário Camboriu.

The Bahia Bodyboarding Show will be a unique event. Along with the competition rock shows will take place uniting two passions; music and waves.
Bahia, the state of the current world champion, will receive for the first time in history an international event and all the bodyboarding community is pretty anxious to see the best of the best in action. The event will distribute a total of $35.000 dollars ($20.000 for men and $15.000 for women).

We are very happy to receive two world tour events in Brazil in a year that the world is facing difficulties. We want to bring as many international riders to the event that we can. We are preparing lots surprises for all competitors on both events – says Flavio Brito responsible for the events of IBA Brazil.

Online entries
All international riders must confirm their participation on both events by filling out the online entry form. The website is being finished and in the next days we will inform.
Email entries won’t be accepted! All international riders must pay in U$ dollars on the Check in day.

Katherine Melo 2009
Venue: Estaleirinho Beach, Balneário Camboriu, Santa Catarina
Prize Money: $ 40.000 dollars (Men $25.000 and Women $15.000)
Men Entry: U$ 170 dollars
Women Entry: $140 dollars

Status: Women Grand Slam and Men International event.

Official accommodation
The Camboriu Plaza Hotel will be the official accommodation for the Katherine Melo event. All competitors will have discount accommodations. The organization will have free shuttles taking and bringing all competitors to the beach to the hotel. The hotel is located in the center of Balneário Camboriu with lots of shops, banks, and restaurants.

Airport
Santa Catarina has 2 airports.

The international is the FLORIANOPOLIS AIRPORT and is located 90km from Balneário Camboriu region. The Florianopolis Airport has the most numbers of flights and usually has the cheapest flights rates.

The NAVEGANTES airport is the closest one to Balneário Camboriu about 20 km but, it doesn’t have as many flights as the Florianopolis and is usually more expensive then.

Bahia Bodyboarding Show
Venue: Armação beach, Salvador, Bahia
Prize Money: $ 35.000 dollars (Men $20.000 and Women $15.000)
Men Entry: U$ 170 dollars
Women Entry: $130 dollars
Date: 28th of April to May 3rd
Status: Men and Women international event
Points: Women 1000 points Men 1000 points
Check In: Tuesday, 28th. The location will be announced in the following days.

To give an extra day for all riders to move themselves from Santa Catarina to Bahia, we will have the check in on the 28th for a start on the 29th of April.

Accommodations
All the options are between 300 to 500 meters from the competition. There is no need to rent a car to go the beach. All of these options have special rates for the competitors.

The Guinness World Records have officially certified Shawn Dollar's 61-foot wave, at the Cortes Bank, off the coast of California, as a new paddle-in world record.

The first kitesurfing competition will hit India, between 23rd-25th May, at Mandwa. The Red Bull Quila Surf will showcase 70 Indian kitesurfers in the water.
The costal district of Raigad is ready for action. The Red Bull Quila Surf is the first ever kitesurfing competition in the country and anxiety grows. "Death loop" kills kitesurfer in Quebec

A 32-year-old kitesurfer has passed away when he was sailing on the Lake of Two Mountains, in Quebec, Canada.
Julien Blanchard was enjoying a kitesurfing session in the part of the river delta widening of the Ottawa River, in Quebec, when he suffered what is commonly called the "death loop". The rider was dragged to his death on the lake, after fell and being kept underwater by his kite for about 20 minutes.

Taty Frans and Kiri Thode have claimed the Slalom and Freestyle titles at the Curacao Challenge 2013, in the Netherlands Antilles.
A total of 85 windsurfers from some of the world's best sailing countries like Bonaire, Aruba and Curacao competed in front of hundreds of spectators. The 5th edition of the Curacao Challenge showcased an high level of competition mixed with a great atmosphere. The event held a Tow-In Freestyle contest, Slalom races and a SUP battle.

The adrenaline-fueled 13th May 2013 has been considered an historical big wave surfing day, in the French Polynesian island. Too big to paddle-in, too vertical for surfers. No worries.
