The 2009 UK Bodyboarding Tour has provisional schedule
Monday, 18 May 2009 11:11

UK Bodyboarding Tour

The BBC is pleased to announce that two members have been provisionally co-opted to the managing committee. Alex Ledbrooke joins as Treasurer, to take over from the outgoing Rob Muscutt (who remains on the committee in a non-portfolio capacity). Sam Perry joins to strengthen the competition organisation team. Both will stand to have their positions ratified at the next AGM.

Most members will know Sam and/or Alex, and both bring a wealth of bodyboarding experience and enthusiasm to the committee.

Provisional Competition schedule

The finishing touches are just being put to the 2009-2010 BB competition schedule. Subject to confirmation the outline is:

25 July: Corona/Kahuna/Overhead Wedge Air Jam – Tolcarne, Newquay
5-6 September: Auto-Sleepers British Nationals – Porthtowan
10-11 October: Nationals fall-back date
7-8 November: Anglo-French Challenge – Quiberon, Brittany.
TBA: Smackheads invitational
TBA: English Nationals
TBA: Boscombe Reef inaugural event - Bournemouth

British bodyboarding continues to buck the trends with new sponsors, new venues and new competitions. Auto-Sleepers have signed up again to back the Nationals, which will see the same bumper prize purse as in 2008; culminating with a £1,000 first place prize in the Open. Applications for Divisional sponsorships have recently been released.

2009 will also see the welcome return of the Tolcarne Wedge comp; with new sponsors Corona (the beer company) teeming up with Kahuna to provide the party atmosphere, and Overhead continuing their competition support.

The two new events are the Anglo-French challenge and the Smackheads invitational. The Anglo-French competition was the brainchild of Olivier Etchebers of the FSA and Rich Hall of the BBC. It will see the top 4 riders from each country pitched against each other for individual and National pride. Will the spirit of Agincourt or 1066 prevail? Only time will tell. The Smackheads invitational is on the down-low with much work yet to be done, but look out for some potentially spectacular slab action. The date for the English Nationals is yet to be set, but may be moved to a new venue.

With construction of the Boscombe reef due to complete in September, and the BBC will be involved with the inaugural event. This will be a chance for the strong contingent of Bournemouth boogers to pit their skills against the rest of the UK on their own turf.
