McClean, Stone and Winchester will discuss the 2009 Rebel Sport Pro Tour at Duranbah Beach
Tuesday, 27 October 2009 12:01

Dave Winchester

The final leg of the 2009 Rebel Sport Pro Tour is set to go down at Duranbah Beach during the RAW Nationals ’09 in November and the action will be red hot.

After 10 months of competition through Qld, NSW, Vic, SA and WA the Men’s title race is coming down to three distinct contenders.

Corey McClean from Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast is the current ratings leader after placing highly in most of the events on the Rebel Sport Pro Tour, including a win in the EBB Pro in WA.

“Game on ” said McClean.

“This is my home break so I will feel pretty comfortable out there, but Winny and Jake are awesome competitors”

“ I don’t know, I will just have to take it heat by heat but I would love to win the Tour on home turf in front of my friends and family” said Corey.

The perennial bridesmaid this year has been Jake Stone from Maroochydore. He has finished second in every single event he has entered and will be looking to go one better at D’bah.

“ I am keen to win the Rebel Sport Pro Tour” said Stone.

“ D’Bah is one of, if not THE best wave on the tour so I am pumped!!”

“ I have been training hard with Hardy and can’t wait”

Winchester is the defending Australasian Pro Tour Champion, but this is one Stone that Jake has left unturned.

The third and final contender in the mix is Northern Beaches rider Dave Winchester.

“Winny” as he’s know is also contending the IBA World Title and is currently sitting in second behind Hawaiian Jeff Hubbard going into the last event at Confital in the Canary Islands. With a good result he could be IBA World Champion for 2009.

“ Yeh I’ll just take it one heat at a time” said Winny.

“ D’bah’s a sick wave and the other guys are in good form so it will be an interesting week for sure”

“ After that I will turn my attention to the IBA World Tour”

The race for the DK Title will be between defending Champ Glen Sullivan (NSW) and Dane Pope (Qld) whilst the Women’s race is being lead by Tasmania’s Nicole Fleming.

The week will kick off with the RAW National titles with 180 of Australia’s best amateurs all vying for the prestigious Australian Title.

Ten (10) divisions will be contested across the 6 day window culminating with the Rebel Sport Pro, a 4 Star event featuring the likes of Ryan Hardy (WA) Mitch Rawlins (Qld) Michael Novy (Qld) Chad Jackson (WA) Brad Hughes (WA) and Jones Russell (NSW)
