2010 BIA Tour

Salt Creek beach in Dana Point was the site of the BIA National Championship Bodyboard tour season opener with a field of 75 riders turning out competed in the first of 7 Pro/Am Bodyboard competitions this year. $ 1000.00 in cash awarded to the Pro body boarders and an additional $3,000 in prizes and awards to all the finalists as the premier body board tour attracts the Nation’s top amateur and Professionals riders.

Conditions for the event were fantastic and couldn’t have been better as the competitors and spectators alike were blessed with sunny skies and solid 3 – 5’ swell. Dana point local/resident and defending Pro DK Camp, Joe Grodzen took advantage off his local knowledge and the excellent conditions as he was the only Pro competitor to make the finals in both Pro Open and Pro DK.

The Pro Open Final was stacked and truly up for grabs as all four finalists rode with unique, original styles and maneuvers both worthy and capable of winning the heat. In the end standing alone the top of the podium was defending Pro Open Tour Champ Drew Erichson claiming the $ 500.00 First place check over Collin Goddard in 2nd, Joe Grodzen 3rd and Danny Hart in 4th.

Pro DK final was a heat worthy of a spectator fee in itself. As the Pro DK riders continued to unveil their entire arsenal of next level DK maneuvers linking massive barrels with snaps, floaters, spins and aireal combination that created a buzz throughout the entire day and event. Claiming the victory and $ 500.00 check was another Salt Creek local Shaun Conboy who edged out Jeff Vycital 2nd , Jake Minnehan 3rd , and Joe Grodzen 4th .

The female division final was compiled of 3 former and defending tour champs setting the stage for an exciting final. Another salt Creek Local Tara Parsons also proved local knowledge was a key component and tremendous advantage as Tara picked off the biggest, cleanest waves of the final while boosting and landing very impressive rolls to claim the Victory beating out defending champ Natasha Overin in 2nd . Luke Overin took the victory in the youth over 2nd place Mason Bender in a major display of courage and skills as the boys were out in conditions a bit over the heads. Juniors division was won by Ryan Colle over Jacob Caruso 2nd.

The Mens final witnessed a battle between tour Champ Dusty Brizolara and Sean Evans with Brizolara earning an impressive TKO with Evans in 2nd. Another star studded final featuring 2 former and current defending tour champ was the Masters. Winning this battle was Mike Glezos over Custom X Team rider Miguel Torres 2nd , Marcus Hirth 3rd , as Madrid team rider Tom Prince came in 4th. Ryley Colle claimed impressive Victories in both AA and AAA.

The day and the event were simple awesome with solid brands, solid support and all levels of riders performing while representing and growing the sport of body boarding and the industry. It’s great to see the sport and BIA tour is on the rise, thanks to all Staff, competitors and tour sponsors for your part in this movement.
