Old Bar Beach: beautiful and uncrowded

The 2010 Old Bar Beach Festival - Bodyboarding Contest is on the October long Weekend, Sunday 3rd Oct. This will be the second year for the event and already is looking to be another great year.

As per usual the festival rides will be in town. Last year, the contest was held on Old Bar Beach which was set-up right next door tothe rides and amusements.

Depending on contest surf conditions the location is planned to be in the same location, right out front of the Surf Club amongst the festivities.

Market stalls will be available offering everything imaginable. A selection of fine food is available as well as hot dog stands, ice-cream vans and the much needed coffee stops. Live entertainment isavailable all day consisting of live bands, dancers, singers, fashion paradesand other entertainers.

The annual Kombi world record attempt is on in the afternoon and is always a good show. Last year the record set was 210. Dion Myers and Lauren Knowles entered last year and won first place in the ‘People Choice’ division. There is also a classic car display and many other activities and attractions.

Back on the water new Dunes have come on board with Grand Flavour, Riptide and other local businesses to support the event.

Contest Organiser Melynne Rosamond says ‘the event is agreat chance for the younger and amateur bodyboarders to trial competition surfing before entering state level or higher. However all levels of bodyboarders are welcome’. Last year, Jimmy Leayr of Newcastle took out the open and DK divisions with Sam Bennett not far behind him’.

All divisions are available including junior, cadets, opens, women’s and drop knee. Limited positions are available so be sure to get in quick to avoid disappointment.
