Mark McCarthy: not a stranger in top places

All bets are off as we wrap up day 6, the finals of the 2010 South African Bodyboarding Championships at Sun Coast Casino and Entertainment World. Mark McCarthy claims his 2nd Pro Title and Southern KwaZulu Natal capture their 2nd 'Fishman Trophy' in 24 years.

The Southern KwaZulu Natal Team has secured their 2nd 'Fishman' Provincial Trophy by totally dominating every other province in the race. Southern KwaZulu Natal walked off with five out of the eight titles at this year's event. This included first placements in the Boys, Ladies, Mens, Masters and Dropknee divisions. These wins along with the other high finishers of their team guaranteed that they were leagues ahead of their nearest competitors.

In the Pro division Mark McCarthy dominated the final with a solid back-flip in the opening minutes of the heat. Dane Beales was right on Marks heals, as he put together combination moves and rides to the beach. But Mark managed to fight off the advancements with a second high scoring ride that ensured he would have his second ever South African Bodyboarding Championship title.

The provincial teams celebrated in the Delano room at Sun Coast Casino & Entertainment World, which has been one of the best venues in the 24 years of the event. City Bowl Mizers rocket at the prize giving and everyone had a great time. A special thank you must go out to Vuyiswa and her team for assisting in creating an amazing event.

SABA would like to thank the sponsors for their support today as well as Stuart Bradford as well as everyone else involved for organising an amazing event. The 2010 SA Championships have been sponsored by the EThekwini Municipality, Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World, Nando's, Gotcha, Turbo Bodyboards and Power Balance. That is all from this year's SA Champs. We will see you next year when the event moves to Cape Town for 2011 hosts, Western Province.
