IBA Pipeline Pro: the party returns

Are you ready? Yes, it's time for another world bodyboarding season and what a way to kick off hostilities. Welcome to the 2011 IBA Pipeline Pro, to be held in the Hawaiian Islands, between February 15th and 25th.

The event will feature a Men, Women and Drop-Knee Grand Slam with a total prize money of US$55,000. Initially, there will be a two-day trials event, at Sandy beach, to determine the riders that will join the seeds at Pipeline.

The Sandy Beach Trials will commence on the 12th February. The top 16 (Men), top 3 (Women) and top 4 (Drop-Knee) will move into the main event.

The competition format will be like this:

Men (112 riders + 16 trialists)

8 x 4 man heats – 2 progress x 7 rounds
4 x 4 man heats – 2 progress
2 x 4 man semis – 2 progress
1 x 4 man final

Women (16 riders)

4 x 4 man heats – 2 progress
2 x 4 man heats – 2 progress
1 x 4 man final

DK (20 riders)

4 x 5 man heats – 2 progress
2 x 4 man heats – 2 progress
1 x 4 man final

The round by round seeding breakdown for the Men's Grand Slam Series event will be as follows:

Top 16 x IBA Internationals from previous year (seeds 1-16)
12 x IBA Rated riders from previous year (seeds 17-28) + 4 x Wild Cards (seeds 29-32)
48 x IBA Regional Tour Spots (seeds 33-80)

Then, 32 spots after that will be from previous IBA WMT Ratings (seeds 81-112)
Then, 16 positions will come from the Sandy Beach Trials (Unlimited positions in trials, seeds 113-128)

The seeding breakdown for the Women's Grand Slam event will be as follows:

Top 10 Women from the 2010 Rankings
Three (3) Wildcards
Three (3) top placed from trials

The seeding breakdown for the DK Grand Slam event will be as follows:

Top 8 riders from the 2010 Rankings
Eight (8) Wildcards
Four (4) top placed from trials
