Up to 200 bodyboarders have surfed the first waves of the 4th Soldiers Beach Pro. The Rebel Sport Pro Tour and the NSW State Bodyboarding titles got green light and valuable points are at stake.
Jake Stone, coming from a victory in the QAB Pro, is leading the fleet. "I am looking forward to the event. It’s a wave rich part of the NSW coastline and always has great conditions", said Stone.
Damian King, from Port Macquarie, will be defending his title."This event was awesome last year and with the forecast showing swell for the four days it will be another good battle this year", said King.
Hayato Enokido comes from Japan to try to better is second place in the last event. Terry McKenna, IBA Australasian manager, says that the four-day contest attracts the best riders in Australia.
"In 2011, the National ranking from this tour is directly linked to the World Tour, so a win here would increase riders chances to qualify for the elite IBA Grand Slam Series (GSS), in 2012" said McKenna.
The best amateur riders in NSW will also be on show with Round 1 of the State tiles, also running in conjunction with the tournament. The Central coast is well represented with Copacabana local Mark Parsons leading the charge.
"It's always good to compete at home events and sleep in your own bed", said the humble local.
