The Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro is a crucial stage of the 2011 IBA Grand Slam Series. The sixth event will deliver decisive points for the final world bodyboard ranking. Current IBA world champion Amaury Lavernhe is excited to host the contest in his homeland. "I am so happy right now", said the champ. "To have all of the worlds best riders here at my island is incredible. The forecast looks amazing and the next ten days will be mind-blowing with all the things that we have planned", he added. The last title was won by Guilherme Tamega, in 1998. He charged 10 feet gaping barrels and 13 years later he is back as one of the main contenders for this year’s championship. Amaury Lavernhe and Guilherme Tamega are still in serious striking distance for a shot at a world title and there are several other riders also closing in on these leaders. "It’s been a tricky year for me", said Kingy. "My boards are great, I am fit and feel like I am surfing as good as ever but I have just been unlucky. I don’t know why but the chips just haven’t fallen my way in a lot of close heats". The trials for the Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro will offer 10 places into the main event. Also, there are five wildcards being offered. Competition will begin on 30th September, with the main event window going from October 2nd-9th. |
