The 2012 IBA Australasia Rebel Sport Pro Tour has announced several new features for the 2012 bodyboarding season and the calendar of events. Minimum prizemoneys have been raised and points simplified to make everything easier to understand.
"The 2012 Rebel Sport Pro Tour will mark a new era in competitive bodyboarding within Australasia. The prizemoney minimum has been at $3000 for 5 years, so we have lifted that and created a simple 1-3 Star ranking system that will make it easy for promoters and contestants to work with", says Terry McKenna, IBAA General Manager.
The opening event of the 2012 Rebel Sport Pro Tour will be The Box Pro, in Western Australia, between March 26th and April 4th. The first of the new events will be the Port Macquarie Bodyboarding festival, surfed between April 14th-23th. It will be a IBA World Tour Grand Slam event for prone, DK and women.
Then, it's time for a completely new QAB Pro. "QAB wanted to take the event to a whole new level and we believe we have done so. The QAB R1 and Pro trials will still be at Duranbah from April 26-28. From this contest the Top 4 will join 4 Wildcards and the Top 12 IBAA rated riders (from 2011) at Cudgen Reef for a 5 day waiting period using a similar format to Shark Island", explains event director Danny Bycroft.
QLD Pro (Tweed Heads), Vico Pro (Mornington Peninsular), Box Beach Pro (Port Stephens), SA Pro (Knights Beach), Newcastle Pro (Newcastle), and Rebel Sport Pro (Kiama) are the next venues that will crown the best Australasian bodyboarders.
