The Jeff Wilcox Memorial has been revived. One of the longest running independent bodyboarding events in Australia will be run for the 16th year, since 1990.
"You don't have to reach the top to be a champion, just be the best you can be". Jeff Wilcox's quote has never been so updated and real. Inspiring the new generation, that is what the event's all about.
Jeff was a brilliant sportsman with amazing potential, excelling in bodyboarding and hockey. He passed away with only 14 years of life, but his legacy keeps shining and bright.
The Jeff Wilcox Memorial was started by Andrew Capilli and Andrew Quirk, in 1990, in honor of Jeff. It quickly evolved into one of the most respected, and prestigious competitions held in the sport of bodyboarding.
The best riders from all around the world have come to the Great Lakes area to compete in this event in the past. Past winners include Ash Murray, Troy De Coque, Ben Holland, Ben Player, Andrew Lester, Damien King, Levi Wagner and Mitch Rawlins.
The Jeff Wilcox Memorial 2013 will be run between August 24rd-25th, in the spot with the best conditions in the Great Lakes, NSW (Tuncurry Beach, One Mile Beach, Bulls Paddock, Boomerang Beach or Bluey's Beach).
Four divisions (Juniors, Women, Drop-Knee and Open) will surf 15-20 minute heats, with the best two waves counting for the overall score.
