Tuesday, 10 March 2009 15:06

IBA Australasian Pro Bodyboarding Tour

After a five year absence the IBA Australasian Pro Bodyboarding Tour will make a welcome return to the Central Coast as the Soldiers Beach Pro gets set to blow-up later this month.

Taking place on the pristine, wave-rich Central Coast, the Soldiers Beach Pro will see 250 of Australia’s best riders converging on the region for a four-day festival.

Encompassing more than just the cut-throat competition, usually reserved for the world’s best athletes, the Soldiers Beach Pro will also see the celebration of the sport of bodyboarding.

Featuring an outdoor movie night, athlete signings, clinics and some after dark entertainment – beginning from 26 March 2009 – the Soldiers Beach Pro will be one not to missed.

As the second event on the 2009 IBA Australasia Pro Tour, the event will feature some of the biggest names in the sport.

Current IBA World Tour ratings leader, Ryan Hardy (Margaret River, WA), is fresh off a win at Pipeline and is amped for the contest.

“Its been a while since we have had a contest on the Central Coast,” Hardy admitted.

“This area has a lot of great waves and a long history of great competitors so I am pumped for a good result,” he added

Reigning IBA Australasian Champion Dave Winchester  has also confirmed his attendance for the event and is looking forward to defending his title in 2009.

EBB State Bodyboard Series head to Mandurah Wedge
Tuesday, 10 March 2009 10:53

Brad Hughes

The WA bodyboarding community is currently buzzing with anticipation of the first EBB State Bodyboard Series this weekend. With a solid swell forecast and favourable winds, the opening round of competition is poised to take place at one of WA’s most infamous breaks, the Mandurah Wedge.

The opening round of the three event series offers WA competitors a chance to compete in some of the best waves the state has to offer. Mandurah Wedge is a high performance break that has been a mecca for many bodyboarders lately and will hopefully attract some new and exciting entrants.

This new location is a bold step forward for the development of bodyboarding within Western Australia. With a number of WA bodyboarders competing at the highest level, this is a huge opportunity for some emerging talent to forge a name for themselves in arguably one of the states best bodyboarding waves.

After the recent success of WA’s Ryan Hardy at the IBA World Tour Event at Pipeline, the whole state is currently talking about this event.

A stellar line-up of WA hottest bodyboarders who are eager to check out the action include, Alex Halesy (Woodvale), Lewy Finnegan (Ocean Reef), Ben Vietch (Margaret River) and Ryan Hands (Mandurah). All of which are likely contenders to represent WA at the Bodyboard Australasia National Titles held at D-Bah Queensland in November this year.

Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks is excited about the prospects of waves this weekend.

“Mandurah Wedge and the surrounding breaks provide some of the most consistent and contestable waves in the whole metro area. With the forecasts looking awesome for later in the week the standard should be great and provide a true spectacle for those willing to step up to the challenge.”
