Airton Cozzolino has claimed the Red Bull Unfastened 2014, in Sardinia, Italy.
In the first day, eight strapless kitesurfers competed in seven-minute heats for glory, at Fontanamare Beach. Judges were looking for tricks, style, height and creativity.
The second day was run at La Maddalena. Riders had five minutes to improve their previous results. In the end, the creator of the Red Bull Unfastened took the highest place in the podium.
Cozzolino was born in Cap-Vert, but he is living in Sardinia for 10 years. Patri McLaughlin finished the competition in second place, and Patrick Rebstock secured the bronze medal.
"Without sponsors I wouldn't be able to fulfill my dream of challenging the best riders in the world for a strapless competition. Now I hope that the discipline begins to spread and practiced all over the world, and perhaps be included in the 2020 Olympic Games. Why not?" comments Airton Cozzolino.
