Niccolo Porcella: man versus Jaws

Niccolo Porcella suffered one of the most horrific wipeouts in the history of kiteboarding.

The Hawaiian-Italian waterman was riding Jaws/Peahi, in Maui, and he was forced to hit the eject button when a gigantic mountain of water closed out. The visual result is mind-blowing.

"It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen! I should have released the kite and pulled in. The kite lines were already getting caught in the waves and pulled the kite down," explained Niccolo Porcella.

"I thought at that point: 'send it and maybe make it over! Otherwise, I'm going to pull in and get lipped anyway'." Porcella tried his best, but he was sling-shot straight at the wave's breaking lip.

Niccolo Porcella, 28, is an all-round sportsman. He is a regular surfer, kitesurfer, cliff diver, base jumper and wingsuit flyer.
