Anke Brandt has set a new world record for the longest kitesurfing journey ever by a female rider.
The German kiteboarder rode her kite for nearly 298 kilometers (161 nautical miles) from Bahrain to Doha in Qatar. Brandt spent 17 hours in water to complete the challenge.
Her original plan was to sail 500 kilometers (270 nautical miles), totally unassisted, and double her original record set in 2015.
However, a sudden change in the weather and a windless hour spent floating in the water forced a shorter adventure.
Anke Brandt was raising awareness and funds for Wings for Life, a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation started by two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner and the founder of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz.
The kiteboarder living in Bahrain improved her previous Guinness World Record by 47 kilometers, but she will certainly return to complete the original challenge.
