Necker Island: Richard Branson's private kiteboarding paradise

Guinness World Record™ holder and 9 time world champion Kristin Boese is set to lead the lineup of stellar professional riders for Sir Richard Branson’s exclusive inaugural BVI Kite Jam 2010 at his idyllic Balinese style Necker Island paradise on February 27th - March 5th.

Silke Langenkamp, Destination Manager “Travel Marketing” said: “We have been very happy to announce the famed female German pro rider Kristin Boese as the first professional participant in the fantastic new kiteboarding event in the British Viring Islands. We are convinced that her participation will administer a lot to make the BVI Kite Jam a successful event. And we are very much looking forward to welcoming Kristin in our island paradise.”

While Boese has been busy with the launch of “KB4girls”, a worldwide non-profit clinic tour for female kiteboarders, she will be taking some time off from her tour to be able to participate in this extraordinary event in the British Virgin Islands.

Boese said: “With our third and next 2010 KB4girls event set to take part on Maui/Hawaii on April 9th – 11th I will have enough time to get away for this very special event and while I sure enjoy our female only kite events I am very much looking forward to taking part in the first inaugural BVI Kite Jam and to kite in such a pristine location. The format of the event just shouts out FUN and I can not wait to be there!”

"As the publicists for BVI Kite Jam 2010, we feel honored to have Kristin on board, she has the kind of dynamic personality and experience as a pro kiter that is a perfect fit for Kite Jam," says Erika Vives, senior director for Andria Mitsakos Public Relations.

Other confirmed riders for the event include Andre Philip, Susi Mai, Tuva Jansen, Tom Court, Chris Burke, Gretta Kruesi and Madison Van Heurck. The BVI Kite Jam will include visual competitions, demonstrations and technique clinics in key locations throughout the British Virgin Islands. The Caribbean winds of BVI create excellent conditions for kite-boarding as the Tourist Board seeks to raise awareness of the islands as a top destination for the sport.

Set against stunning scenery and sparkling aquamarine waters, the Necker Island event will kick off with a VIP evening and fashion show sponsored by Billabong at the Fat Virgin Cafe. Additional events, competitions, parties and meals for the Kite Jam participants will be hosted on Bitter End Yacht Club, Necker Island, Anegada and Sand Box. Necker Island is located in the north-eastern Caribbean archipelago of 60 tropical islands, islets and cays.

The event is sponsored by the BVI Tourist Board, Bitter End Yacht Club and Necker Island as official venue partners; Cape Air as the airline partner; Sunsail as the accommodation partner, as well as Green Technology BVI and Delta Petroleum. In addition, “Sailors for the Sea” has given the event a Clean Regatta Certification, in conjunction with Sunsail’s participation and other greening elements of the event.

BVI Kite Jam has also partnered with local charities including the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) and Tortola’s Kids And The Sea (KATS), a non-profit water sports program.

Potential “KITE JAMMERS” can register online at the official BVI Kite Jam website, www.bvikitejam.com; Participation fees include accommodations on Sunsail Catamarans, lunches, dinners, festivities and more. Fee costs, additional amenities, contests and restriction details can be found on the event’s website.
