The 2010 Luderitz Speed Challenge aims to break L’Hydroptère world record

2010 Luderitz Speed Challenge: new innovations are being prepared

Many world records have fallen during the first three years of the Luderitz Speed Challenge, boosting kiteboarding to the top ranking in speed sailing. Taking place October 4-31, the 2010 Luderitz Speed Challenge will continue to expand upon previous years’ innovations that have made the location the fastest kiteboarding spot in the world over the past three years.

A canal dug at last year’s challenge created a near perfect water state that allowed kiters to go faster than ever before in less wind (40 knots max). At just three meters wide, it was ten times narrower than the canal at “Les Saintes Marie de la Mer“ in France, where Antoine Albeau set the fastest time on a windsurfer (49.09 knots). This year, plans include expanding the canal and improving the angle, making it completely straight in order to gain better averages of the course of 500 meters.

Competitors help develop the sport and grow kiteboarding internationally, so take this opportunity to push the limits of other national and world records, including “L’Hydroptère,” with the present 51.36-knot record. As always, the World Sailing Speed Record Council (sailspeedrecords.com) will be present to sanction the event.

THE FASTEST GPS SPEEDS ARE SET IN LUDERITZ :
www.gps-kitesurfing.com

The plan in 2010 is to build upon the success of last year, and dig a canal the whole way. The width and angle will also be improved. It’ll be made dead straight to get better averages over 500 meters.

We were at Luderitz in February, and the canal was still there.
So it’s definitely the best way to make a chop killer and attain records.

The event attracts many nationalities and has proven to be the fastest kiteboarding spot in the world over the past 3 years.

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) who sanctions each event will be present to make records official, as was the case in previous years : www.sailspeedrecords.com

Competitors who attend the event, help develop the sport and grow kiteboarding internationally.

Take this golden opportunity, together we can push the limits and beat some other national and world Records going faster than “L’Hydroptère” which currently hold the record with 51.36 knots.

Fun Race saves the 2012 Défi Wind in Gruissan

Wednesday, 23 May 2012

SurferToday.com | Surfing News Center The 2012 Défi Wind has been concluded in rather untypical weather conditions. Unfortunately, the Tramontane wind didn't appear to salute the 850 windsurfers, at Gruissan, France. The "Défieurs" are coming back home with a feeling of bitterness for not having the opportunity to participate to a more formal race, but all the same glad to be the witness of such a Défi-out-of-control.
