| Canada prepares for the 2010 Squamish Kiteboard Racing Summer Series |

The Squamish Windsports Society (SWS) is very pleased to announce the 2010 Squamish Kiteboard Racing Summer Series. Kiteboarding competitors will be racing shoulder-to-shoulder at high speeds around a marked course to see who is the fastest to the finish line. The only one of its kind in Canada, the Series will be held monthly on four scheduled weekends throughout the summer. Races will be hosted from the Squamish Windsports Park (“The Spit”). This series is modeled after other similar events at international venues, which have already proven to be highly successful and popular. Course Racing is a very exciting new aspect of the sport of Kiteboarding, which is quickly becoming popular worldwide. Upwards of 50 kiters can be starting close together on a tight line. At the horn they bolt off at impressive speeds on specialized boards around a course of anchored floating markers, all the while battling with the elements, other racers and their own abilities to make it around as fast as possible. Efforts are being made to bring this sport to the 2016 Olympic Games. Races are scheduled for Saturdays: June 12, July 10, August 28 & September11 with weather make-up days for each subsequent Sunday. Racers will battle for point ratings which will go towards overall Series rankings and titles. First starts are at 11am. Races last approximately 15-20 minutes each, and can run until 5pm. The series is open to all competent kiteboarders, and will have categories for race-specific equipment, freeriding equipment, Men and Women. ABOUT SQUAMISH With a variety of quality venues for many sports, Squamish, BC has become known as the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada. It is situated at midpoint between the two host cities of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games: Vancouver and Whistler, where the Howe Sound inlet meets the Coastal Mountain range. For kiteboarders, Squamish has become the regional hotspot, boasting calm waters and steady thermal winds averaging from 18-25knts during the warmer months. It is all set to a scenic backdrop, and welcomed by a large and growing community of riders.
