2010 PKRA Essaouira: great winds, great palm trees

The wind began to pick up in strength fairly early this morning, making it possible for an 11:30am start. The double eliminations resumed with women’s heat #15, Jalou Langeree (Naish, NED) against Ania Grzelinska (North, POL).

Grzelinska did not continue onto the following heat against Johara Sykes-Davies (Flexifoil, GRB) due to an injury she obtained in her previous heat. Sykes-Davies moves on to compete against Asia Litwin (Nobile, POL) but loses in a 3-0-judge decision. Litwin goes on to face Jo Wilson (Naish, GRB) in the semi final.

Wilson pulls off some awesome tricks such as kite loops, handle passes, blind-judge, and railey to blind, while Litwin struggle to complete an air pass. In the final heat of the women’s double eliminations, Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP) was up against Jo Wilson (Naish, GRB). Pulido defeats Wilson in a 3-0-judge decision.Pulido pulls off many technical tricks with greater power such as 313, slim, blind-judge, and front mobe to name while Wilson’s handle passes and blind-judge 3 were not quite enough to win her the event title.

Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS) jumped his way through his first two heats today eliminating Tom Hebert (Airush, NCL) as well as Michael Schitzhofer (JN Kites, AUT). Yates defeated Schitzhofer in a very close heat, however Yates had cleaner execution and a powered switch slim.

Yates moves on to compete against Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, ITA). Rondina put an end to Yates’ winning streak and moves on to the semi final against Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED). Everyone on the beach thought that Rondina would be the winner of this heat for sure because of his extremely clean landings, his style and variety of tricks however, Zoon defeats Rondina in a 2-1-judges decision. Zoon moved on to the final against fellow Dutchmen Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED). Langeree manages to pull off more technical tricks than Zoon, which will earn him the Essaouira event title.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Wednesday, 23 May 2012
