It's official. The US kitesurfer Rob Douglas owns the World Sailing Speed Record with 55.65 knots. The WSSRC has ratified the last record of the 2010 Luderitz Speed Challenge, held in Namibia. The desert of Africa was blessed for the wind riders. Many male and female kitesurfers broke personal, national and world records. Douglas -who has been named SurferToday's "Athlete of the Year 2010" in the kitesurfing category -beated the former l'Hydroptère record. Earlier in the week, the World Speed Sailing Record Council ratified the achievements of Charlotte Consorti, from France. She is the first woman ever to sail over 50 knots. Consorti registered a 50.43-knot speed record.
