John Heineken has been crowned the 2011 kite racing world champion, in Sylt, Germany. The US team dominated the Men's fleet by putting four riders in the leading places of the rankings. Twelve races were run in dramatic conditions and, in the end, there was only one European kiteboarder in the best five positions: Julien Kerneur managed to secure the fifth place. The IKA Kite Racing World Championships were great for the future of the sport. Waves were rolling in at 3 meter high, breaking up to 200 meters from the beach, and it was more than once that the committee boat was completely airborn in the 20+ knots breeze. In the Women's division, the experienced Steph Bridge, from UK, is the new world champion. To balance things, the European female kiteboarders dominated the competition. Katja Roose from the Netherlands was second, Nayara Licariao from Brazil was third and the French Caroline Adrien took fourth. Melissa Gil, from the USA, closed the best five list. The new production division was won by Sky Solbach and Steph Bridge. Results after 12 races (3 discards): Men 1. John Heineken (USA) 6.3 points Women 1. Steph Bridge (GBR) 6.3 points
