The Vestas Sailrocket 2 has smashed its own world speed sailing record after hitting 65.45 knots (121.21 km/h) over 500 meters, in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
The revolutionary sailing boat has been training and improving its marks in the African coast, during November 2012. The 65.45-knot speed sailing record was captured by a GoPro-equipped remote control airplane. "We are absolutely over the moon with today's performance. So cool, so damned cool. I saved the big reveal until I got the boat back up to the timing hut", reveals Paul Larsen. Larsen set three records in eight days, raising the record by almost 10 knots, since the first attempt. Will the British-designed, inclined-rig hydrofoil go for the 70 knots? |
