That's Stand-Up Kiting (SUK). The idea might seem ridiculous, at a first glance. But, remember how do you feel when there's almost no wind, your girl/boy is alone in the beach and you simply have nothing to do.
Richards experienced riding a 15m kite with a SUP board, in 5-8 knots of wind. And he really enjoyed it. Of course, it is not as intense as riding small boards at high speed, but who cares. You're having fun.
