Check your favourite weather charts and it’s easy to see, a serious low pressure system is expected to run through the southern ocean under South Australia and this will create waves of serious consequence pounding the extreme surf locations off South Australia.
Chief forecaster for the Fantastic Noodles Intense Wave Invitational 09, Ben Matso has played a cool hand to date.
There have been big swells, particularly early in the month, but this approaching swell is what Ben has been waiting for.
Matson’s official alert is as follows – “The next round of swell is expected to arrive on Sunday, and although we’re looking at a period of windy conditions at first, it appears that this large swell will last over two or three days. Computer model forecasts are suggesting a ridge of high pressure will move into the region early next week, easing the local winds and cleaning conditions up considerably. And with the storm track being positioned much more closely to the location, we’re likely to see some very large waves around this time.”
“So the short version is that we’ve upgraded the status to Orange Alert for the time frame between Sunday and Tuesday. Gut feel suggests we’re looking at late Monday or early Tuesday for the best combination of large waves and good winds, but I’ll update this over the next couple of days as more weather information comes to hand.”
Look for a RED alert call in the coming days as this weather pattern unfolds and then look for the event to be called ON, 48 hours before the official start time as Matson conjures all the meteorological information and goes out on a limb to send all the infrastructure that will run, film, judge, control and even live webcast this incredible event.
