Mavericks: wipe-out stunts hard quite hard

Surfing has entered Hollywood mode, at the dangerous surf peak of Mavericks, Half Moon Bay, California. "Of Men and Mavericks", a surf movie about the life of the grand wave master Jay Moriarty, is currently being filmed in 25-foot waves with famous stunts.

Mavericks is a natural film set with the entire professional Hollywood circus. There are artificial lights, many HD cameras, walkie-talkies, jetskis, make-up artists and, of course, surfers.

"Of Men and Mavericks" requires stunt surfers. Greg Long, Grant "Twiggy" Baker, Zach Wormhoudt, Dave Wassal, Peter Mel, Anthony Tashnick and Shawn "Barney" are doing perfect rides and wipe-outs, too.

The cutting-edge face replacement effects are also in the line-up. Jay Moriarty's biopic is a strong bet by the Hollywood movie industry. Surfing is sexy and big wave surfing is even more appealing.

Despite the cold water conditions, everyone is stoked to tell the story of a local legend. Scottish film star Gerard Butler almost drowned while filming a scene in big wave conditions. Fortunately, everything went well.

"Of Men and Mavericks" is being directed by Michael Apted. He replaced Curtis Hanson, L.A. Confidential director, because of complications surrounding a recent heart surgery.

The surf movie is scheduled to be released on the 26th October 2012. Discover the complete list of surf movies.
