You have finally decided to buy yourself a new or your first surfboard. What size? What shape? A shortboard, a funboard, a longboard or even an SUP?
You'll have to choose the board that fits two important issues - your weight, and your level of experience in surfing.

Check the following table, because you should pick a good paddling/flotation ratio.
The main surfboard features are: nose, tail, fin setup, thickness, rocker and bottom contours. Take a look at the surfboard size chart:

The correct surfboard for your body is usually the one that has one hand palm over your head.

If you ride small-to-medium waves, you can pick a longboard or a funboard/malibu.

To convert Kg to Lbs, note that 1kg equals 2,2 lbs.
To convert Meters to Feet, note that 1m equals 3,3ft.

How to pick the right surfboard?

After carefully selecting the right size, it's important to know the main features of a surfboard.

Two shortboards, one Malibu and one longboard. If you had to take four surfboards to a distant surfing island, for the rest of your life, this would probably be the best surf quiver.

Most surfboards are made of polyurethane despite the environmental problems, but the international production houses are moving to alternatives such as epoxy.

All surfboard shapers started to test the best materials to acquire top performance, light weight, design and resistance to impact.

A rounder template/outline will force you to longer curves and more laid-back surf.

Width and length are very important issues. Wider boards offer more fluctuation and are the perfect choice for very small fat waves.

Rocker is considered the most important feature in a surfboard by many shapers.

The rounded pin tail, round tail, squash tail and rounded tail are very common because they hold the surfboard quite well in all-round surf conditions.
