Scottish actor Gerard Buttler was born on the 13th November, 1969, in Paisley, Scotland.
He graduated in Law at Glasgow University and eventually turned to acting. Butler acted professionally for the first time in a stage production, in London, ate the age of 27.
Several other roles in stage, television and cinema productions were followed. His first film participation came in 1997, and in 2007 his work as King Leonidas, in the movie "300", brought him wider recognition.
He is also known for his roles in "Dracula 2000", "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life", "The Phantom of the Opera", "P.S.: I Love You" and "Ugly Truth", among others.
In 2012, Butler played the part of big wave surfer Frosty Hesson in "Chasing Mavericks".
He tried surfing for the first time at 17, but had to quickly develop his surfing skills for the part in the surf movie. The actor was serious injured while filming, after getting pulled under a big wave.
