Ben Shaw: surfing for 29 minutes and 10 minutes at Kure Beach

Ben Shaw has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive surfing session, at Kure Beach, North Carolina.

The passionate surfer rode waves for 29 hours and 10 minutes. He was raising awareness for Ocean Cure, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving free surf lessons to medically fragile and at risk youth and adults.

Shaw entered the waters of Kure Beach at 6:30am (30th August, 2014) and kept catching waves until 11:40am (21st August).

The new record holder surfed over 300 waves, and always had a cheering support from friends and anonymous citizens that dropped by to say hello and good luck.

The business professor at Cape Fear Community College, 37, broke one longboard and had to pick up a backup foam board. The previous record belonged to Kurtis Loftus, from Florida, with 29 hours and five minutes.
