Mick Fanning presents the Red Bull Surf Masters
Wednesday, 02 July 2008 15:51

If you’re between 15-19 years old, live in NSW and dream of one day becoming a professional surfer like Aussie World Champion Mick Fanning, then get your wax out and your board ready cos’ Red Bull is on the lookout for the next big name in surfing!

Red Bull Junior Surf Masters, presented by Mick Fanning, is a first time event being held in NSW this July and August giving young surfers an amazing opportunity to go head-to-head with Australia’s best Junior Pro surfers. The first prize is the biggest ever awarded for a junior surf event in Australia and is designed to help up-and-coming surfers launch their pro career into the World Qualifying Series (WQS) and beyond!

How it works is that a series of five qualifying events will take place in various NSW locations. The top four surfers from each event (20 in total) will then be invited to battle it out on the water at the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Trials to be held at Queenscliff on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, on Friday 29th August, 2008.

The top four from the Trials will then compete against 16 Junior Pro Surfers, hand-picked by Mick Fanning in a new innovative surfing format called ‘Torched’.

Mick Fanning is stoked to give something back to grass roots surfing and will be attending the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Finals at Queenscliff to watch all the future Aussie pros in action! He’ll be joined by talented young Aussie surfer Julian Wilson (currently carving it up on the WQS Junior Pro tour), who will be one of the 16 Junior Pros competing in the Finals.

“An opportunity like Red Bull Junior Surf Masters doesn’t come along very often and could be just the break these young guys need to launch their surfing careers,” said Fanning. “It will be an intense competition designed to pick only the best surfers, but is the first step that could realistically see someone go from their local beach to some of the most amazing surf venues in the world.”

Even if you’re not competing, you can still enter the online competition for you and five mates to hang out with Mick Fanning at the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters finals in style – now that’s some serious star treatment!

“If you love to surf like me and are keen to take the sport beyond a hobby, then you’d be mad not to enter!” continued Fanning.

The qualifying events for Red Bull Junior Surf Masters are as follows:
Werri Beach - 5-6 July, 2008
Cronulla Beach - 19-20 July, 2008
Lennox Head Beach - 9-10 August, 2008
Merewether Beach - 16-17 August, 2008
Avalon Beach - 23-24 August, 2008

So if you fancy yourself as a bit of a pro on the waves and think you’ve got what it takes to one day mix with the professionals on the world’s best surfing breaks, then put your board where your mouth is and get your applications in!

Mick Fanning will make an in-store appearance for Red Bull Junior Surf Masters at Surf Dive n Ski in Wollongong on Thursday 3rd July between 4.00–5.00pm.
