Surf Snowdonia: opens August 1st, 2015 | Photo: Planet IE/Surf Snowdonia

Europe's first public surf pool will open on August 1st in the green Conwy Valley in Snowdonia, Wales.

Surf Snowdonia will feature the world's first Wavegarden artificial wave pool. The world's first proper inland surf lagoon will pump a two-meter high barrelling wave.

The ride starts at the center of the surf pool, peels perfectly for more than 150 meters, and dissipates softly as it hits the shore, right in the eyes of a 50-meter glass-fronted viewing gallery.

"We are hugely excited to announce that we will open our doors on Saturday, August 1, 2015. That means you have a countdown of just eight and a bit weeks to tick off on your calendars - a mere 58 short little days to cross off - until you can let rip on what will be the longest man-made surfable waves on the planet," states Surf Snowdonia.

"It's just 13 months since we put our first spade in the ground. And yes, it's been, at times, unnervingly ambitious and incredibly hard work, but we are now nearly there. Construction will wrap up in the next few weeks, and we'll have a testing period in July ahead of our public launch."

Surf Snowdonia was built on a former industrial site that closed in 2007. The surf pool itself will have different areas for different surfing levels.

Beginner surfers will be confined to the Bays, at all four corners of the lagoon, where the 70-centimeter waves are perfect for learning the basics and building confidence.

Intermediate surfers will ride 1.2-meter wave faces toward the sides of the lagoon. Advanced wave riders will surf closest to the central pier, where the barrelling wave is highest (2 meters).

Prices for a one-hour session range between 19 and 40 pounds (beginner wave) and between 26 and 45 pounds (intermediate/advanced wave).

There are bundle deals ranging between 145 and 190 pounds for a five-hour experience.
