The Washington Redskins will have a new stadium, and they have hired a famous Danish architecture company to build it. The thing is, there will be waves and surfers around it.

In the past, football stadium served a single purpose. They were a venue for soccer games, American football and, in some cases, they were built with running tracks for athletics. But the world of architecture and design is changing, and modern sports arenas offer multiple possibilities.

Today, the Danish stars of architecture are changing the world with their provocative designs. BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group - has currently five projects underway in New York. And their vision for the Redskins is out-of-the-box.

"When I started studying architecture, people would say: 'can you tell me why are all modern building so boring?' Because people used to have that idea that in the good old days architecture had ornaments and gargoyles. And today, it just becomes very practical," Bjarke Ingels tells 60 Minutes.

The Washington Redskins' new 60,000-seat home will feature a surf pool around the wave-like structure. Will they use the Wavegarden model, the Kelly Slater Wave Company concept or their own artificial wave mechanism? We still don't know. But they want to do it.

"The stadium is designed as much for the tailgating, like the pre-game, as for the game itself," adds Bjarke Ingels.

"Tailgating literally becomes a picnic in a park. It can actually make the stadium a more lively destination throughout the year without ruining the turf for the football game."

The location for the new Washington Redskins stadium has not yet been revealed.
