South Australian kitesurfers prepare for the 2009 State Wave Titles

The 2009 State Wave Titles are closing in fast and we’ve had a great response for registrations already since the media swap night.

A big thanks goes out to Phil from the Kiteshop,Pete and Brett from Onboard for sponsoring the event. This is a big pimp for their shops. If you need any kite gear, these are the guys!

We’re seriously pushing for a result this year given that the Nationals are in October down at Robe and we’re keen to make sure we fill out spots including Wild Cards for the Nationals.

As you would have seen on the website and in the previous newsletter, we’ve left the timing of the competition wide open to ensure that we get great conditions. The nominated weekends are June 20,21 & 27,28 and July 4, 5 & 11, 12.

The event is planned to be held in one single day, with the same usual categories: Open Mens, Open Womens, Masters, Juniors and Amateurs.

There won’t be heats; entrants for each class will be competing for waves together, Mambo style.

The location will be determined by the wind direction & weather; however our priority is the Mid Coast between Southport and Moana with a backup down at Goolwa. It is also our preference to hold the competition in the morning, possibly as early as 8am.

Notice of the Event will be as follows:

Sunday prior (6 days notice): Email & Website confirmation that the event is likely or unlikely to be held the following weekend

Thursday prior (2 days notice): Email & Website confirmation that the event definitely will or won’t occur on those days

Friday prior (24 hrs): Confirmation of the specific location and start time - All registered competitors will be notified by email and SMS (assuming rego forms have been completed correctly).

The Competition sub-committee will make the decisions as to exactly where and when the event will be held, based on the best information available at the time. SAKSA fully understands that this may pose some inconvenience to competitors and spectators, however as there was no backup results from the Robe Easter Classic, it’s imperative that we have an outcome for this event.

Judging will be based on specific wave riding technique, wave selection and utilisation, plus factors of strapped/unstrapped and hooked/unhooked.
As per the previous State Titles, the entry fee will again be $40 which includes breakfast or lunch, the competition rashie, for those who register and pay prior to next Thursday (18th), you’ll receive the new SAKSA beanie.

The winner of each class will also be automatically entered in the Nationals including entry fee. Should the winner decide to not compete at Robe, preference will be given to second and third places.

The registration form is attached and we encourage everyone to come along.

Competitors do need to be current members of SAKSA (membership form is on the website).

South Australia has grown enormously in its national kite surfing presence. We had an awesome Freestyle Titles earlier in the year and although the competition is not fixed to a time or place, you’ll get to be a part of the best wave riding we have.

The first email confirmation will be out this Sunday evening. Keep a close eye on the website www.saksa.com.au for more details. Any queries, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call Will Chapman on 0411454656.

We look forward to seeing you there!!!

To wax or not to wax a bodyboard

Wednesday, 01 February 2012

SurferToday.com | Surfing News Center Waxing down a bodyboard is not a matter of style. The world's best bodyboarders have different views on whether you should wax, or not, a competitive bodyboard. Also, some riders believe there are special waves that need a glue between the body and the board, even if they prefer not to use wax in a regular wave ride. New bodyboards are too slippery because they still come with the industrial protection that makes them very appealing. That is why there are always moments for a waxing a...
