Ellis Ericson

In a tiny swell at the world famous Bondi Beach, Ellis Ericson (Suffolk Park) has taken out the final qualifying event of the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters.

Starting out as an alternate, Ericson was not guaranteed to surf today however a no show provided him the opportunity into the first round.

Dominating the field by placing first in every heat, apart from his semi-final where he placed 2nd, Ericson has secured his place in the final to be held at Cronulla in Sydney’s south along with a host of other prizes.

Posting a 6.17 and a 6.77 (out of a possible 10), Ericson’s total of 12.94 (out of a possible 20) was too good for other surfers Max Ashford (Matraville), Chris Salisbury (Newport) and Tamaroa McComb (Burleigh Heads) who places second, third and fourth respectively.

The final was not without its drama with McComb only needing a small score to over-take Ericson for the lead, an interference was called on McComb for dropping in on Ayshford. This sent McComb to last place and allowing Ericson to hold onto the lead and take top spot.

McComb was strong all day, proving his worth by boosting massive air reverses in every heat showing his commitment to innovation and radical surfing.

All four surfers in today's final go through to the Trials in Cronulla next week.

Other standout surfers from the day were Jake Fawcett (Geraldton) and Kurt Kiggings (Lilli Pilli) who made it to the semi-finals.

Highest heat total of the day went to Ericson who posted a total of 14.00 (out of a possible 20) in his Round two heat. Wave of the day went to Joe Sear (Cronulla) who posted a 8.25 (out of a possible 10) in his Round two heat.
