While the world’s elite surfers get ready for the next leg of the ASP World Tour, Australia’s top amateur surfers are waxing their boards in anticipation for the Australian Open Surfmasters Titles. The prestigious event, running from 22-28th August, 2010 at Port Macquarie, forms part of the upcoming Country Energy Australian Surf Festival, which also entails the Australian Longboard Titles (14-21st August) and the Australian Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Titles. Reigning Open Men’s champion Mark “Richo” Richardson of Queensland will be out to defend his title despite a swag of up-and-coming talent qualifying for this year’s event. Richardson will also be representing Australia in the upcoming World ISA titles in Peru in the Open men's team. Hot on the heels of Richardson will be recently crowned NSW Open Men’s champion Max Ayshford (Matraville, NSW). Ayshford was in the most sparkling of form at the Kiama based NSW Open State Titles in July. Having claimed an Australian Junior Title as a 16-year-old and now a prestigious NSW Open Surfmasters Title two years later, Ayshford will be one surfer to watch once the siren fires on competition. “I would love to add an Open Aussie title to my junior crown,” said Ayshford. “I felt like I performed pretty well in Kiama, so hopefully I can keep it going in Port Macquarie.” For more information about the Country Energy Australian Surf Festival please visit www.australiansurffestival.com or www.surfingaustralia.com For all enquiries please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
