The 26th Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau has announced the 28 coveted invitees and 24 alternates. The official holding period extends from December 1st, 2010 through February 28th, 2011. The competition will be staged on a day when waves exceed the 20-foot (Hawaiian Scale) minimum. The traditional opening ceremony will take place at 2:30pm, December 2nd, 2010, at Waimea Bay. The event gathers the most skillful and dynamic big-wave surfers from around the globe. The Eddie is a surfer's ultimate challenge, employing unassisted manpower to physically paddle into and ride giant waves. Last year's December 8th is still considered the greatest single episode in the history of big wave riding. Let's hope the 2010/2011 edition will bring the biggest swell ever. The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau is the only big wave event sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), the governing body of professional surfing.
