More than 20.000 surfers visit Peru every year to enjoy the best waves in the country. The information was revealed by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
Surfers from all over the world are very interested in the wave peaks of Punta Rocas, Chicama, and Cabo Blanco.
These are the best spots for surfing in Peru. The local economy is highly benefited.
"This sport is a specialized niche that still has much growth potential.
Peru has the world's longest wave at Chicama beach in Trujillo, one of the world's highest waves at Pico Alto beach in Punta Hermosa, and tube waves at Cabo Blanco beach", says Eduardo Ferreyros, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
Surf tourists come mainly from Australia, the USA, and Brazil. There are a lot of surf schools and a young surfboard manufacturing industry.
In 2010, the South American country exported 6.000 surfboards and accessories worth more than US$550.000.
