London Surf Film Festival: no waves, but plenty of good movies

The inaugural London Surf Film Festival will hit the capital of England between October 13th and 15th, 2011. The first surf movie festival will feature films, documentaries and independents on the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, London.

From July 1st, filmmakers are invited to submit their entries for "The Shorts Competition". The competition is not constricted by genre - surfing and surf culture are wide open to creative interpretation and the festival expects submissions that explore all aspects and angles of surfing from documentary to stop-frame to animation and anything in between.

To be considered for selection, the short films must have a running time of five minutes or under and have been created after March 2009 by film-makers from or based in Britain and Ireland. Submissions will be open until 26th August 2011.

The cream of surf culture will be displayed as well as the very best in independent films by both leading lights and emerging surf filmmakers, features by internationally acclaimed directors, UK premiers and cult classics.

"The Shorts Competition" it’s a platform for established and emerging home grown talent to flex their creative muscles and an opportunity for the best to be selected for screening as part of the festival programme.

All films will be competing for prestigious awards including "Best Feature Film" and "Best Cinematography", as selected by the Screening Panel, comprised of experts from within the worlds of surfing, filmmaking and media, as well as the London Surf Film Festival "Viewer’s Choice", as voted for by the audience.

Alongside the screenings will be Q&A sessions with directors, producers and waveriders of note allowing the audience to get closer to the action and meet the heroes and legends of screen and surf.
