Perfect 10-point rides are rare, and when they happen, the crowd out on the beach goes crazy. A perfect 10 is competitive surfing's ultimate goal.
Surfers know that only a well-selected wave and completed maneuvers will get the maximum score. But not all waves in pro surfing can earn ten points from the judges.
Perfect 10 wave rides require commitment, difficulty, a combination of old and new school moves, innovative and progressive style, major maneuvers, variety, speed, power, and flow.
If a pro surfer can tick all these variables, he may claim the ride with a glorious fist pump.
If there's a ranking for the surfers who've had the most 10-point rides, then Kelly Slater will be on top. One of the best Perfect 10s in the history of surfing was ridden during the 2010 Quiksilver Pro France.
Slater was battling a giant, windy, and choppy ocean when a right-hander came. He paddles for it, drops in, and a couple of seconds later, he steps down from the first floor inside a huge barrel.
The crowd couldn't believe it and went wild as Slater escaped the white water monster.
But the 11-time world surfing champion from Florida has at least four more unforgettable Perfect 10s.

In big wave surfing conditions and in between broken surfboards, Kelly Slater slotted an incredible 10-point ride at the 2009 Hurley US Open of Surfing, a few meters away from the Huntington Beach Pier.
Joel Parkinson won't forget the 2009 Billabong Pro J-Bay. An endless barrel in South Africa's surfing jewel highlighted his victory in the event. It was one of the best waves ever ridden, for sure.
And you know Josh Kerr. The Australian "kerrazy" aerialist knows how to impress judges. While surfing at the Drug Aware Pro 2010, he launched his surfboard rockets twice in the same wave.
New school aerialist Owen Wright has impressed the crowd and the judging panel at the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
