Portugal has quite been the center of world surfing in October 2011. Extreme waterman Garrett McNamara has surfed the biggest wave of the year in the country, after conquering the big waves at Praia do Norte, in Nazaré, on Monday, October 17th. There were three days of big waves McNamara was there with CJ Macias to participate in the ZON North Canyon Show 2011, a surf project which runs until the end of November. "There were very big waves and this was our first big wave. It was a good warm up for this beginning of the operation. It was a perfect day", explains Garrett McNamara. In the next day, McNamara and CJ Macias were joined by Andrew Cotton, an English surfer who participated in last year's mission at Nazaré. They caught perfect five-metre waves. The second year of the ZON North Canyon Show is a huge success and Nazaré has set high standards for global big wave surfing. Will McNamara hit the best waves of the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards? |
