The 2012 ASP World Tour is getting ready for a new season of planetary surfing. The world's best surfers are packing and will head to the Gold Coast, after Christmas, for one of the biggest and most famous surfing events.
Snapper Rocks will be the surf spot where everyone wants to be, from 25th February to 7th March. There are new surfers, experienced and veteran surfers and confirmed talents that may explode at any moment.
The famous 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater and local heroes Joel Parkinson, Owen Wright, Julian Wilson, Jordy Smith, John John Florence, Kolohe Andino, Gabriel Medina and two-time World Champion Mick Fanning will definitely headline the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.
The Roxy Pro also opens an incredibly exciting Women’s World Tour with defending World Champion Carissa Moore facing an enormous challenge from all sides including four-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, World No.2 Sally Fitzgibbons and World No.4 Tyler Wright.
Boasting a US$535,000 prize pool, the event needs six days for completion during the 12-day window. The main event site overlooks the world famous righthand pointbreak of Snapper Rocks and if a cyclone swell appears the Gold Coast’s southern points – all within walking distance of each other - will put on a show to remember from Snapper through to Greenmount and onto Kirra.
Each venue allows fans a magnificent view of the world’s best surfers in action and once the day’s competition is over the southern end of the Gold Coast comes alive with a bursting nightlife ensuring the event is also one of the most popular on the World Tour.
The Moskova Trials will be held on Friday, 24th February with the winner to join surfing’s elite in the main event.
