Zorro: the surfing piglet

A surfing piglet has been riding waves in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The newest surf pet star is named Zorro.

The Kiwi surfing community has a new friend. Zorro is a piglet who surfs waves. He loves to hit the warms waters of his local spot with Matthew Bell, his best friend.

Zorro started surfing when he was only three weeks old. After fine-tuning his balance on a surfboard, the piglet wanted bigger wave rides.

"We've had a couple of pigs and I always thought it would be fun to surf with one. When we first went out people just looked at us like, 'Are you crazy'", Matthew Bell explains.

"A lot of them asked whether pigs can swim and I guess it's something you don't think about but they're built for it - they just put their snout up in the air and go for it".

Zorro is now a surfing celebrity. He enjoys milk and bread and is always ready to meet his fans, out in the beach, while tanning in the warm sands.

"I don't think Zorro will get bored of his new found fame, the more belly-scratches he gets, the better and he loves it that he's very popular down at the beach. He's enjoying hogging the limelight".

Zorro, the surfing piglet, will be supporting Kiwis Against Seabed Mining (KASM) to raise awareness for the protection of the threatened dolphin of Maui.
