Surf Snowdonia: 6-foot waves in Conwy, North Wales

The town of Conwy, in North Wales, will debut a 6-foot artificial wave park by summer 2014.

Surf Snowdonia, a multi-million pound surf themed outdoor attraction, was announced for Conwy, North Wales. The water sports center will feature 6-foot waves powered by Wavegarden and cable wakeboarding. The opening is set for summer of 2014.

The project is planned for the Dolgarrog site, a small community in Conwy County Borough, in Wales, situated between Llanrwst and Conwy. Construction kicks off in September 2013.

Conwy Adventure Leisure promises to regenerate the former aluminium works. The artificial wave pool is supported by four times Welsh surfing champion Lloyd Cole.

"This project is rapidly coming to the attention of surfers both in the UK and overseas. The combination of the Wave Garden Lagoon and other watersports attractions is going to place North Wales firmly on the adventure tourism map", says Cole.

Surf Snowdonia expects to attract 67-70,000 visitors a year, and not just surfers but family visitors, too.
