The 2014/2015 Big Wave World Tour (BWWT) schedule has been announced. It will be the first year under the umbrella of the Association of Surfing Professionals.
The best big wave surfers in the planet will ride the largest swells of the globe in the Southern and Northern Hemispheres. Dungeons (South Africa) and Peahi "Jaws" (Maui) have been added to the equation.
The revamped Big Wave World Tour has been divided into a two-part schedule, activating competitions with optimum swell windows at some of the planet's most renowned venues.
"The addition of Dungeons and Peahi really cement the foundation of this Tour in determining the world's most comprehensive big wave surfer. The variety of each of these breaks and the culture of the local communities makes this a very special thing to be a part of", says Peter Mel, ASP Deputy Commissioner.
The acquisition of the BWWT by the ASP will allow for top ASP surfers such as Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, John John Florence, amongst others to join respected BWWT surfers like Greg Long, Grant Baker, and Carlos Burle in competition with waves in the 25-foot-and-above range.
