The Wavegarden Cove is coming to Palm Desert in California. The DSRT Surf wave pool will open to the public by 2021.
The new 18-acre inland surfing facility will be built 115 miles away from San Clemente and will also feature a world-class golf course.
The team behind DSRT Surf will build a resort with premium villas and accommodations in a laid-back scenario.
The structure will feature a spa and fitness center, areas for volleyball, pickleball, and yoga, and a surf academy.
The desert surfing wave pool powered by Wavegarden will be equipped with solar power generation technologies.
"We will adopt water conservation, native and drought tolerant landscaping, and a unique program that dramatically reduces and offsets water consumption," DSRT Surf notes.
John Luff and Doug Sheres are the co-founders of Desert Wave Ventures, the company behind DSRT Surf.
"We have deep roots in surf pool development, the surf industry, finance, hospitality, real estate development, law, land use, environmental initiatives, politics, and community building."
The $200 million project will be built near the Desert Willow Golf Resort. Construction works start at the end of 2019.
Josh Kerr, CJ and Damien Hobgood, and Shane Beschen will be the ambassadors of DSRT Surf.
The Desert Wave
The wave pool itself will produce ocean-like rollers in clean and crystal-clear fresh water.
The Wavegarden Cove produces up to 1,000 waves per hour, ranging between 50 centimeters and 2.4 meters, which break simultaneously across six different surfing zones.
Each area offers waves of different sizes and power, specifically designed for all surfing levels - newcomers, experts, and everyone in between.
Wavegarden's software can create up to 30 different types of waves.
Wave size and shape can be modified with a push of a button. From steep barrels to open-face waves and slow-moving whitewater.
Identical right and lefthand waves are produced in a staggered fashion on either side of the pier every four seconds.
Non-stop waves are ideal in busy moments. Nevertheless, to minimize energy consumption, wave frequency can also be programmed to correspond to the precise number of surfers in the water.
The Cove has a capacity of 100 hundred surfers at any given time.
