Cloud 9: 'hey, turn off the lights!'

Cloud 9, one of the best surf spots in the world, will be available for surfing during 365 nights a year.

In October 2010, the Cloud Nine Night Surfing - a fifty foot tower with floodlights - will illuminate the wave everyone is looking for.

The construction project is underway and includes safety boats, life guards and surfing lessons for those interested. The official opening ceremony is scheduled to the 24th September.

Philippine Vice-President Makati Jejomar Binay will light up the wave spot, known for its perfect barrels and 300 meter ride.

Cloud 9 is located in Siargao Island, Philippines, Asia.

Stand Up Paddle: some surfers enjoy a helping hand

Next weekend 4th and 5th September sees a British Stand Up Paddle Association supported event run by The Gower Paddle Club going ahead in the beautiful location of The Gower in South Wales.

The Gower Battle of the Paddle in association with Bae Fest promises to be a fantastic event but due to the style of the event we are awaiting feedback from BSUPA insurers to let us know if it can be included as a BSUPA Series Race Event.

The Gower Paddle Surf Club have our thanks for taking on this event on such short notice due to the original organisers pulling out.

BSUPA are supporting this event what ever the outcome. If the insurers say no - well, it will be a great fun race.

The race takes place on Saturday 4th in Swansea Bay as part of the Bae Fest, registration at midday (parking on the recreation ground at St Helen's Rugby pitch). Sunday we see some surfing action at Llangennith with a fun surf event.

Entry can be on the day. Please come along and support Gower Paddle Surf Club with their first event. Next year it is the hope of all concerned that a full Gower Event can take place.

Greg Lazarus: indoor aerial champ

The European Flowriding Championships will be held in Cornwall, between the 4th and 5th September.

The most thrilling extreme sports champions from Sweden, Holland and Germany will hit the artificial waves of the Retallack Resort’s Loop complex to decide who will be heading to the Wave House Sentosa, Singapore, for the World FlowRider Championships (October 29-31).

Ben Skinner and Adam Griffiths (winner of the first UK Pro Surfers Flowriding Championship) are confirmed to attend this inaugural event.

World champion Greg Lazarus (South Africa) will stand in at the judging panel.

There will be three divisions: men’s stand-up, women’s stand-up and bodyboarding.
