Red Bull Wake of Steel: flying over Linz

Sixteen international wakeboarders will pull their best tricks over a half-sunk cargo ship, at the Red Bull Wake of Steel 2013, in Linz, Austria, on the 15th June.


A 65-metre long, water-laden and thereby half-sunk cargo ship has been prepared to offer wakeboarders the ultimate playground.

A 150 cubic square metre tank has been put together inside the ship, with a 28-metre long A-frame, a pair of kickers, a 20-metre pipe, a downrail and a 12-metre iron girder for the craziest rail tricks. The highest jump is 4.5 metres above water level.

Bob Soven: rider and entrepreneur

Bob Soven has become a partial owner of the Cowtown Wakepark, one of Texas' premier wakeboard facilities.


Soven is now one of the first pro riders to take an ownership position in the wakepark industry. Soven, 21, is a seasoned professional and one of the most respected athletes in the action sports community.

"I want to do everything I can to help wakeboarding develop and reach it's maximum potential. I see getting new riders into the sport via cable as the best way to do that", says Bob.

Wakeboarding: getting the pros in the rankings

The World Wakeboard Association has announced the creation of the Malibu Boats WWA Pro Card, a program which includes qualifying and ranking criteria to establish a higher level of competition.


The all-new WWA Pro Card, renewed annually based on WWA World Rankings, legitimizes elite-level riders that are truly professional and encourages them - regardless of wakeboard (boat) or wake park (cable) - to set a higher standard of riding at professional contests.

The WWA Pro Card works based two major criteria: qualifying and rankings. At the beginning of each season, the WWA will hold Pro Card qualifier events (both boat and cable), open to all riders and not based on age.
