Wakeboarding: the 2020 Olympic dream is on

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation will make its final presentation to the full Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Olympic hopes of the world wakeboarding community grow as the 50-year-old dream is waiting for the final IOC decision, to be made in September 2013.

Is wakeboarding going to hit the 2020 Summer Olympics? Project "Wakeboard 2020 Vision" will try to get a chance between eight possible sports (baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wrestling and wushu).

"It is an enormous challenge as each of the eight contenders is granted just 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minute question time, to make their case for inclusion in the Games", the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation members explain.

Andres Botero, Kuno Ritschard, Des Burke-Kennedy, Gill Hill, Varna Laco and Argy Daskalopoulos will present the wakeboarding dream in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The IOC is looking for dynamic youth focused lifestyle sports, as well as environment-friendly low cost male and female balanced disciplines such as wakeboard. Cable wakeboarding is the right answer for the 2020 Olympic Games.
