Taranaki Wave Classic set to October in New Zealand

The Taranaki Wave Classic is New Zealand's premiere windsurfing event.

Held at 4 possible locations around the legendary coastline of the Taranaki peninsula, the Labour weekend event will sample some of New Zealand's best wind and wave conditions.

All skill levels are welcome with FUN being the main focus, or you can come along, chill-out and watch the action.

Epic down the line wave sailing, barbies, and a few beers what more could anyone want.
Maybe the chance to win a state of the art Carbonart Windsurf Board as well as sails, masts, booms and other wonderful prizes.

Total prize pool of over $7000 dollars.

New for 2009

We will be running Introduction to Wavesailing Clinics, presented by Taranaki Windsurf Club and covering the basics of wavesailing with the aim of safely getting people out on the water. Also a favorite is the Lean to Forward Loop Clinic which covers the basics of how to throw your first forward loop.


The 2009 Event Format

Following a long history of events held in Taranaki, the Taranaki Wave Classic will continue to put the emphasis on fun.

The event will be an Expression Session format, where competitors will free-sail in whatever conditions occur at the chosen location for that day. There will be no heats, no man on man elimination and no stress. The top 10 riders will be selected for a super session.


Warm Up & Registration - Friday 23rd October

This day will be a good chance to get used to the conditions and locations before the main competition starts. People are free to sail where and when they like.

Registration will be held at 7:30pm at Butlers Reef Pub Oakura. You can pick up your amazing entry packs and meet and greet other event goers.


Event Day 1 - Saturday 24th October

First day of official competition begins at one of the 4 possible locations.
10am - Briefing at the Oakura Boardriders, Club, Oakura Beach, Taranaki.
11am - Introduction to Wavesailing Clinic will be held at the beach.
12pm - Judging will start.
2:30pm - Judging will end and finalists for the super session will be announced.
3pm - Super Session starts.
3:30pm Super Session ends , BBQ is fired up and beers are opened.


Event Day 2 - Sunday 25th October
 
Second day of the official competition.
10am - Briefing at the Oakura Boardriders, Club, Oakura Beach, Taranaki.
11am - Introduction to Wavesailing Clinic will be held at the beach.
12pm - Judging will start.
2:30pm - Judging will end and finalists for the super session will be announced.
3pm - Super Session starts.
3:30pm Super Session ends, BBQ is fired up and beers are opened.


Event Day 3 - Monday (Labour Day) 26th October

Lay day, if any of the previous days fail to provide decent competition conditions then Monday will become the final day of competion.

Delphine Cousin is shining a light in the 2013 French Windsurfing Championship, with a victory in the second stage, held in Brest.

Nuno Azevedo has conquered the bodyboarding division of the XV Luso Galaico Championship, a competition between Portuguese and Galician riders.
