The Taranaki Wave Classic is New Zealand's premiere windsurfing event. Held at 4 possible locations around the legendary coastline of the Taranaki peninsula, the Labour weekend event will sample some of New Zealand's best wind and wave conditions. All skill levels are welcome with FUN being the main focus, or you can come along, chill-out and watch the action. Epic down the line wave sailing, barbies, and a few beers what more could anyone want. Total prize pool of over $7000 dollars. New for 2009 We will be running Introduction to Wavesailing Clinics, presented by Taranaki Windsurf Club and covering the basics of wavesailing with the aim of safely getting people out on the water. Also a favorite is the Lean to Forward Loop Clinic which covers the basics of how to throw your first forward loop.
Following a long history of events held in Taranaki, the Taranaki Wave Classic will continue to put the emphasis on fun. The event will be an Expression Session format, where competitors will free-sail in whatever conditions occur at the chosen location for that day. There will be no heats, no man on man elimination and no stress. The top 10 riders will be selected for a super session.
This day will be a good chance to get used to the conditions and locations before the main competition starts. People are free to sail where and when they like. Registration will be held at 7:30pm at Butlers Reef Pub Oakura. You can pick up your amazing entry packs and meet and greet other event goers.
First day of official competition begins at one of the 4 possible locations.
Lay day, if any of the previous days fail to provide decent competition conditions then Monday will become the final day of competion.
