The Midwest Speed Quest returns to Worthington

Midwest Speed Quest 

You are invited to another Offical Race Day at the Midwest Speed Quest in Worthington, Minnesota.

The high winds are returning to Worthington on Monday August 24. The Weather Forecast calls for 22mph Southerly Winds, with gusts of 29mph. These are the best winds we have seen in a long time.

Remember, the fastest windsurfer on Lake Okabena by October 15th wins $1000 CASH. Second Place is $500, $250 for Third, $125 for Fourth, and $75 for Fifth Place. This is the highest prize money in North American Speed Sailing!

We will have lots of demo gear available for the visiting racers. We will have a selection of KA Speed Sails courtesy Windsurf Deal set up and ready to go.

We will have the Carbon Art SP 50 83 liter Speed Board for your use, courtesy Carbon Art, New Zealand.

Some of the fastest speed sailing session in the world have been recorded with the combination of the KA Koncept Sail, and the Carbon Art Speed Boards.

We will have Chinook Carbon Racing Booms, and Chinook Racing Harness Lines set up and ready to go.

We will have demo Canefire and Rockit Speed Fins courtesy Vector Fins of Maui, and also Select SL7 Fins, courtesy Windsurf Deal.

The LOCOSYS GT31 GPS will be provided free to all racers. This is the most precise handheld GPS  available, and is the only handheld GPS recommended by most International Speed Sailing  Organizations.

Gath Helmets are available for use by all racers, courtesy Murrays.com.

While you are here, grab a free copy of the latest issue of Windsport Magazine, courtesy of Peter Dekay and SBC Media, Canada.

Wind Speeds will be measured by the Windtronic 2 Wind Meter, courtesy Gusts.us.

We will also have free or discounted meals available to all racers at the best Mexican Resaurant in South West Minnesota: The Azteca Mexican Restaurant

We have extended the Economic Stimulus Package PHASE ONE through August 24th. Any racer having a "Best Ten Second Run" of 30 knots of faster will receive a IMMEDIATE PAYMENT of $200 CASH!  IF more than  1 racer exceeds 30 knots, this Prize Money will be shared. Previous Stimulus PAckage winners are not eligible.

Economic Stimulus Package PHASE TWO:   The First Racer that has a "Best Ten Second Run" of 35 knots will receive and IMMEDIATE PAYMENT of $500 CASH! If more than one racer exceeds 35 knots, this Prize Money will be shared.

EXTRA: Any Youth Category Racer (18 and younger) who has a Best Ten Second Run of 20 knots will receive an IMMEDIATE PAYMENT of $100 CASH!  IF more than one Youth Racer exceeds 20 knots, EACH RACER WILL RECEIVE $100!!!

Other Economic Stimulus Packages will be created, based on requests, and having at least 3 Racers per Category.

There are over 470 species of sharks and they have been living on Planet Earth for 420 million years.
The smallest shark - the dwarf lantern shark - is only 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in length, while the whale shark is the largest specie in the world, with approximately 12 meters (39 feet). Sharks live in all oceans down to depths of 2,000 meters (6,600 feet). Usually, they do not live in freshwater with the exception of the bull shark and river shark.

"Death loop" kills kitesurfer in Quebec

A 32-year-old kitesurfer has passed away when he was sailing on the Lake of Two Mountains, in Quebec, Canada.
Julien Blanchard was enjoying a kitesurfing session in the part of the river delta widening of the Ottawa River, in Quebec, when he suffered what is commonly called the "death loop". The rider was dragged to his death on the lake, after fell and being kept underwater by his kite for about 20 minutes.

Taty Frans and Kiri Thode have claimed the Slalom and Freestyle titles at the Curacao Challenge 2013, in the Netherlands Antilles.
A total of 85 windsurfers from some of the world's best sailing countries like Bonaire, Aruba and Curacao competed in front of hundreds of spectators. The 5th edition of the Curacao Challenge showcased an high level of competition mixed with a great atmosphere. The event held a Tow-In Freestyle contest, Slalom races and a SUP battle.

Dan Ryan has scored epic air drops into deep barrels, in Teahupoo, Tahiti, during the largest swell of the year.
The adrenaline-fueled 13th May 2013 has been considered an historical big wave surfing day, in the French Polynesian island. Too big to paddle-in, too vertical for surfers. No worries. Dan Ryan, member of the big wave bodyboarding club, was one of the few prone riders defying fear, at the Teahupoo bowl. When the moment came, he went for it, big time.

The third stop of the 2013 IBA World Tour is a Grand Slam Series events, which means there's a lot at stake. With $40,000 in prize money and 2000 points for the winner, Chile is a must.
