2011 Dakhla Festival: 90km is tough

Diony Guadagnino has won the long distance windsurfing race of the 2011 Dakhla Festival, in Morocco. The windsurfer from Venezuela has sailed 90 kilometres for three hours, in moderate to strong winds.

"Long distance was a hard core. It was the first time I have sailed full power for about 3 hours, on my 8.0. It was just like doing a slalom heat, but for three hours straight. I really couldn't even hold on the the boom any more at the end. The view from the lagoon was amazing", said Guadagnino.

The 5th edition of the Dakhla Festival had about 30 international surfing, windsurfing, SUP and kitesurfing stars. During six days, the town of South Morocco hosted incredible water sport performances. Wind races were launched in the beautiful lagoon of Dakhla's peninsula.

International meeting point between Sub-Sahraouian Africa, Maghreb and Europe, Dakhla emphasizes its cultural and social position. Home land for nomads coming from the desert, this town is a true heaven of peace, and a real paradise of water sports.
